The book begins with a map of the city, showing the location of each walk. Individual maps of the walks, the walking time, and an index of the buildings and architects make this book a useful guide.

Olvera shares her favorite restaurants, bars, farmers' markets, and other culinary offerings, neighborhood by neighborhood in Chicago, with a few suggested gems in nearby suburbs. Included in this volume are recipes from local chefs and guides to the city's many food festivals and cooking classes. Olivera draws on her experience as a restaurant reviewer to introduce readers to the wide and varied world of food in Chicago.
